Special Operations Sangheili are some of the most skilled and versatile warriors which the Sangheili produce. When standard infantry will not suit the needs of a task, then it is the warriors of Special Operations that are deployed to provide a more intricate approach to things. They typically carry lighter weapons due to the emphasis that is often put upon stealth during their operations. Their methods and tactics are quick and efficient, focusing more on completing the mission at hand rather than seek the gain of honor or glory through large-scale engagements. But perhaps more than anything else, these Sangheili are known for their abilities to move silently and without being seen due to their access to active camouflage which is a part of their armor harnesses.
Any harness that a Sangheili within Special Operations adorns has the ability to cloak, granting invisibility which works the same as the active camouflage that can be found among Zealots. This active camouflage will keep the user near completely invisible to the naked eye, with only things such as harsh natural conditions or properly equipped HUD's being able to elude to the presence of a camouflaged Sangheili. Any harm applied to a cloaked Sangheili will cause this camo to falter proportionally with whatever amount of damage is brought to the Sangheili's shielding. When the shielding breaks, so will the camouflage, which will force the user to await a full shield recharge before being able to use active camouflage again. Though, if given the opportunity, a Sangheili using cloak will automatically regain full invisibility if the shields recharge before breaking. Given how advanced this technology is, however, Sangheili within Special Operations often only use it to put themselves into proper position before engaging the enemy uncloaked. While they are trained in unconventional warfare, these Sangheili still are bound by codes of honor, which makes engaging an enemy force while being cloaked to be seen as cowardly and weak. Only when the objective requires it will a Special Operations Sangheili default to using active camo in a firefight situation.
Special Operations on the server will work along with Rangers, as they are both included under the Special Warfare group. With an adequate number of Sangheili fulfilling both Ranger and Special Operations roles, a powerful and well-functioning team can be created to handle near any task given. On the server, being granted admission into Special Operations consists of many factors which include the IC behavior of a character, expressed interest into Special Operations, and how the character acts during missions. Characters in Special Operations need to reflect the name of their unit with how they perform and act on the battlefield. The current hierarchy of Special Operations begins with Spec-Ops Minor. Upon their next promotion, they may choose to either join the ranks of the Rangers or become a normal Spec-Ops Sangheili. They have a similar option upon the promotion after, where a character may once again choose to become a Ranger, or to become a Commando. At the top of the Special Operations Hierarchy lies the Special Warfare Officer, who may either have origins as a Ranger or Special Operations Sangheili. In terms of active camoflauge, it is something that players should never use extensively to kill NPC's, as when a character is cloaked, they will also be no-targeted which will keep NPC's from attacking the player. Abuse of this privilege will work in the same manner that applies to Rangers and their rocket boots and can result in demotion or removal from the faction.
