Introduction
The Marines are a large force of individuals that have many tasks that they complete each day, from Combat Infantry to Engineering. Most people play the servers and think it is all about shooting and killing stuff. This is the case for some other servers, but on this one, we try to be realistic. This guide will go over terms and definitions that form around the Military Standard as well as go over on how to act as a Marine, Naval Official or any other Military Group.
Saluting
In any branch of service, Saluting is a sign of respect towards another Soldier. You respect them for their position and their rank for main purpose.
- Saluting is only done to higher ranked individuals such as Captains, Lieutenants, Majors, etc.
- There is no need to salute each time you see a Captain. You only need to salute them if you make contact with them. You can RP saluting them, but most of the time they are too busy to type back.
- Never salute in combat or in the field unless in a casual/calm situation.
Meetings/Briefings/AAR's
There are two main types of congregations we use on the server. Meetings and Briefings are two totally different things. They may sound alike and may be used in the same fashion, but really have a different purpose.
- A Meeting is where you set out what you want to talk about, you tell the people who are going to be in attendance what you plan to talk about and you give them the opportunity to actively be apart of the discussion. Share their thoughts, opinions, etc.
- A Briefing is where you call a group of people together, and YOU or someone else is the sole speaker of the meeting. You give out a mission or a plan and you set the standard of it. No one is allowed to talk or ask questions UNLESS YOU (The speaker) give permission.
- After Action Reviews are a form of a meeting that is commonly done after a mission is completed. During these, you will get a summary of the mission, you will ask for the Pro's and Con's of the mission and how to fix the con's. This is helpful when planning events, however it is all IC.
Formations
Formations are an important part to the order that is within the Marines or the Navy. Formations are used commonly to keep people together or to move a group of people to another area in a orderly way. It is a proper way to organize something really. There are regular formations as well as combat formations.
- Regular Formations are usually called in order to give a brief to the people in the formation or to give marching commands.
- Combat Formations are used in obvious Combat situations. They can be used to protect a VIP or to move in sync.
We commonly use the Staggered and Arrow Formations in combat.
Order and Discipline
Order and Discipline are important on a server like this. With such a vast amount of players, we ask that you all are cooperative when the time comes to make things go smoother. There are certain people in the Fleet or on the ship that have powers to detain you, demote you or punish you based on your actions. Some of the typical punishments are listed and explained in detail..
Demotion
- Demotions are done by rank or position. They are also done by your immediate leader in the team. If you are an NCO, you will not be demoted directly by an officer, however the officer can recommend and ultimately tell an NCO to demote you. The same goes for an Officer. An officer will not be demoted by a First Sergeant, however that First Sergeant may be able to speak with that Officers higher up and tell them what is going on. Each group (NCO's and Officers) can handle themselves from within. NCO's are supposed to handle NCO's, Officers and supposed to handle Officers. Officers of course have high authority when it comes to recommendations of punishment, however that punishment and the details should come from someone closer to them in rank, and that would be the NCO.
Punishments
- Punishments are used when Soldiers or Recruits do not listen or are playing around. Punishments are administered by NCO's, Officer's and ultimately handled by the Military Police with the recommendations of the Commanding NCO or Officer. This does not apply to demotions, however it does apply to offences that require Brig time.
